Beauty Item of the Day: LAFCO House & Home Candle Collection

Back when we were young and naïve, we all loved those overly-sweet scented candles from stores like Bath & Body Works and Yankee Candle Company. But our older, more mature and sophisticated selves have developed a taste for subtler scents. Now we’d much rather fill our bedrooms with the scent of Chamomile Lavender, rather than Caramel Pecan Pie. We’ve been fans of luxury candles by Jo Malone and Diptyque for years, but are always open to discovering new and intoxicating fragrances that will make our living spaces feel even more ambient.

Enter LAFCO New York. We’ve known and loved the brand since 2000, when it introduced us to the Santa Maria Novella line of luxury perfumes, personal care products and fragrances. We grew to love it even more when we learned that SMN was actually founded by the Dominican Fathers in Florence all the way back in 1221. LAFCO owner Jon Bresler spent five long years negotiating a deal to bring Santa Maria Novella to the United States, which just goes to show how passionately he feels about the products to which he attaches his name.

But our personal favorite LAFCO line is the House & Home Candle Collection, brilliantly devised by Bresler and the company’s creative director Vincent LaRouche. This collection was born out of what Bresler and LaRouche saw as a gap in the market for candles created with a specific room of the house in mind. The concept is genius: “Fresh Cut Gardenia” for the living room, “Sage and Walnut” for the Library, and “Cilantro Orange” for the Kitchen. These gentlemen with impeccable taste took the concept a step further and created the Dream Homes Candle Collection, which, as you might have guessed, assigns scents to vacation homes in various environments. For example “English Ivy” for a country cottage, “Water Hyacinth” for a lake house and “Big Sky” for a home on the range.
