Fashion’s Night Out: Vegan Edition

Walking in lower Manhattan on Fashion’s Night Out is nearly impossible, the streets packed with fashion focused females (and men, too) trying to glimpse the latest collections, score good deals, toss back complimentary cocktails and schmooze. Three events stood out last Thursday, adding a mission to the night’s madness.

BABELAND
To kick off the night with an arousing start, Babeland hosted an event at their SoHo location. The first fifty guests received free gifts, including mini vibrators, lube and satin bondage kits. Makeup artists with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics were on hand to give quickie lip touch-ups using their ever popular Lip Tar. The buzzed about lip product is a highly pigmented, professional cream.

This all vegan cosmetics company is making its way into the mainstream. Three new colors are launching in select Sephora stores, but the Sephora exclusive color, Nylon, is only available online. Find OCC online or head to their Ludlow Street location in NYC.

Bonus: the event also included a talk on ‘Giving our sex lives a makeover’ with tips on communicating with your partner. Babeland offers longer workshops at the SoHo and Brooklyn locations.

MORGANE LE FAY
Just down the block, at their 67 Wooster Street space, fashion company Morgane Le Fey hosted a lively event. Celebrating thirty years, the current collection was on display. While guests enjoyed beats by POP ETC, members of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society’s NYC chapter were on hand to talk with curious guests.

The organization has gained tremendous exposure from the show Whale Wars, which documents their tireless efforts to stand between poachers and their proposed prey. Members of the MLF design team are great supporters of the direct action group’s work to protect ocean wildlife, which explains the strong and much appreciated presence. Stay informed of Sea Shepherd’s work via Twitter.

MOOSHOES
MooShoes’ Vegan Fashion’s Night Out is a yearly highpoint for any fashion-forward vegan. It should, however, be on everyone’s radar. While it provides a no-questions-asked safe haven for vegans looking for a good time out, with delicious eats from Rawlicious, Candle 79 and Rescue Chocolate, the featured designers are nothing to scoff at. Among them were Cri De Coeur, Brave Gentleman‘s Novacas capsule collection, Neuaura, Love Is Mighty, Vaute Couture and Matt and Nat.

Vegan fashion is not an oxymoron. The artisans of Monisha Raja’s Love Is Mighty are spinning pure gold out of upcycled biscuit wrappers and even fellow designers covet Matt and Nat’s wares.

If you haven’t yet, explore these stores, these orgs and these ideals. You—and the planet and animals—have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Happy shopping!
