Over the past year a new kind of frozen yogurt shop has been taking the continent by storm. International locations are even starting to catch onto the cool craze! These delectable shops are all about the consumer. With a self-service format, the customer is able to create the treat of their dreams. You can fill your bowl with as many flavors of fro-yo as you wish, followed by a covering of delicious toppings. The price is then determined by the weight of the snack. Usually the standard fruit, chocolate and sprinkle choices are offered, but sometimes there are more unique items. Inspired by a romantic story, Danna and Adam Caldwell conceptualized and opened their first Menchies location in May 2007. After only a year of business in Los Angeles, the brand became a sought-out and successful franchise—now the largest of its kind. With shops in the United States, Canada, Australia, Puerto Rico and Guam, and apparently plans to open shop in Israel, Jordan and South Africa, Menchies is definitely a crowd pleaser. It is known for offering a vast array of flavors and for having a lot of delightful toppings.

Only setting up shop in the Canadian cities of Toronto and London, YoYo’s Yogurt Café is new to the fro-yo scene. The chicly designed brand has experienced quite the success, and has locations easily accessible to students of the University of Toronto and Western University, which makes it a convenient and popular student snack site. If you are ever within reach of a YoYo’s, be sure to visit and satisfy your sweet tooth.
