Get Ready for the MTV Video Music Awards 2012
It’s that time of year again, the time of the hotly-anticipated MTV Video Music Awards! We all remember the infamous Kanye West/Taylor Swift incident and Beyonce’s baby bump surprise. Will there be more drama this year? Stay tuned on September 6 for the 2012 VMAs to find out. Here is our lowdown of the event and what you can expect:
Location & Time: Los Angeles, California at 8/7c—check your time zone!
The Host: Are you ready for a laugh? Actor and comedian Kevin Hart will be hosting this year’s VMAs.
The Performances: P!nk is bound to make a comeback on stage. With a forthcoming album loaded with fresh new music, her performance will definitely be something to look out for. Alicia Keys, along with her ever-so-powerful voice, will also be taking to the stage. The world’s favorite boy band, One Direction, will be making their first VMA appearance and will be performing, much to the delight of their screaming teenage fans. There are obviously plenty of rumors circling about who else could possible take the stage—Justin Bieber? Britney Spears? Other than P!nk, Alicia Keys and One Direction, who are the only confirmed acts so far, you will have to watch the VMAs on the night of in order to discover the rest of the performances.
The Nominees: Rihanna is the leading lady this year, snagging up five nominations, including Video of the Year for “We Found Love.” Her on/off companion Drake also follows suit with five nominations. Coming in after the duo is Katy Perry, who has had an amazing year so far, even releasing her own movie. She is up for four nominations, and is also going head-to-head with Rihanna’s nomination for Video the Year with “Wide Awake.” Everyone’s favorite catchy song, “Call Me Maybe,” has Carly Rae Jepsen nominated for Best New Artist. It’s also going to be the battle of the boy bands this year, since One Direction and The Wanted have both been nominated for the category. Gotye, known for the catchy “Somebody That I Used To Know,” is up for two awards, and Demi Lovato’s “Skyscraper” is up in the Best Video with a Message category.
