Juniper Books Book Covers Breathe New Life into Your Library

We love the look of a bookshelf that’s been arranged with close attention to detail. It’s a place to show off our beautiful coffee table books, high-brow literature, treasured knick-knacks and photos of family and friends. And as many a décor magazine and blog has informed us, a bookshelf is a decorative piece in and of itself.

The art of organizing bookshelves has been featured time and again in the aforementioned outlets, so by now we can safely say that we’ve gotten the drift, so to speak. We know to color code, to stack books vertically and horizontally for added visual interest and to intersperse random objets d’art throughout to break the monotony. But, what to do about those ancient volumes with weathered spines that we’ve acquired at flea markets, yard sales and the Strand? Juniper Books has the answer.

Colorado-based Juniper Books offer a brilliant and beautiful solution to your tattered-cover quandary. In 2010, the company’s founder, Thatcher Wine, launched “Custom Collections,” a “business dedicated to personalizing, customizing and generally reinventing the concept of the printed book and the library,” according to the company’s site. The covers instantaneously (and economically) alter the look of a book, and have amassed a following among professionals from all walks of the design world. Hotels, retail stores and private residences alike have enlisted Wine to streamline their libraries, to striking visual effect.

If your design sensibility is a bit bland, you can opt for one or two neutral shades. But, our favorite Juniper Books offering is best for a series or collection: Wine takes a large image and splits it into individual covers that, when taken together, create a cohesive scene. It is one of most fun and exciting design innovations we’ve witnessed in a while.

Convinced and ready to place an order? If you have exactly what you want in mind, commission Wine to create custom covers for you (we highly suggest you visit Juniper Books’ Flickr photo stream for ample inspiration). But, if you’d prefer to have all of the work done for you, simply visit the online store for an incredible array of prepackaged sets. We’ve become such loyal fans of Juniper Books that we’ve all but run out of room on our bookshelves and we have a sneaking suspicion that the same will happen to you.
