Marilyn Monroe for MAC Cosmetics
With her long legacy and iconic beauty, Marilyn Monroe has been popping up everywhere lately, from the big screen, to television, to the modeling world. With Michelle Williams’s Oscar nomination for her portrayal of the blonde bombshell in the box office hit My Week With Marilyn and with the recent premiere of NBC’s Smash, where Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty’s characters fight for the lead role in a musical that is appropriately titled Marilyn, you can tell how fixated Americans are on Marilyn Monroe, even decades after her death. As we all know, Monroe was not only a star in the world of entertainment, but she was also a popular pin-up model. Paying homage to Monroe’s iconic beauty, Sports Illustrated 2012 swimsuit cover model Kate Upton posed nude in sultry makeup and big-volume platinum blonde hair in the spring issue of Muse.
Now, we can finally add Marilyn Monroe-inspired makeup to the growing list of bandwagoners, because MAC Cosmetics is set to release a limited-edition makeup collection at all worldwide locations in October. According to WWD, the collection will be launched by MAC in partnership with Authentic Brands Group LLC, which has owned Marilyn Monroe’s intellectual property since January 2011. About 30 custom-designed eye shadows, lipsticks, nail polish and eyeliners will be included in the Marilyn Monroe collection, and the prices for each will range from $15 to $27. October seems so far away, and we just can’t wait to sexify our look with MAC’s Monroe-inspired thick eyeliners and luscious red lipsticks.
