Next Year’s Rising Stars: The Hottest Actors & Actresses to Watch For

Personally, we like to think of ourselves as purveyors of anything talented, fashionable and all-around awesome. Trend-watching is kind of in our job description and this week we thought we’d make it easy to keep up with who’s becoming the latest buzz on the big screen with our list of actors and actresses to look out for this year. If you’re not familiar with these names, it’s definitely time to brush up on your celebrity. Trust us, these rising stars are going places. Namely, up.
This charming young fellow definitely caught our attention in the TV series Great Expectations. Really, we don’t think we’ve ever seen a more dashing Pip. We’re not the only ones to notice just how sexy Booth is as a leading man—he was recently featured in GQ’s August 2012 edition as one of Britain’s steamiest gentlemen. Don’t worry, ladies, this eye candy can also act. You’ll definitely want to look for him in the upcoming rendition of Romeo and Juliet, set to come out in February 2013. Naturally, Booth will be playing Romeo, and Hailee Steinfeld (of True Grit) will be his Juliet. In 2014, Booth will also star in Noah, along with Russell Crowe, Emma Watson, Jennifer Connelly and Anthony Hopkins.
So, we’re pretty sure you remember Saoirse Ronan from The Lovely Bones, where she did an excellent job of playing Susie Salmon. Three years later, Ronan is all grown up and looking fabulous at 18—and she’s got some pretty impressive roles to go with her newfound maturity. Later this year she’ll be staring in the fantasy thriller Byzantium and, in early 2013, she’ll take on the role of leading lady Melanie Stryder in the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s sci-fi novel The Host. Kristen Stewart, watch out—this might be bigger than Twilight!
Sam Claflin
Yep, you do recognize him—Sam Claflin was the young hottie William in this summer’s Snow White and the Huntsman. Along with Douglas Booth, Claflin got his start in the TV mini-series The Pillars of the Earth, based on the best-selling series by Ken Follett. Since then, he’s played Phillip in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Not to fear ladies, we’ll definitely be seeing more of Claflin, since he’s set to star in the TV movie Mary and Martha with Hilary Swank. There’s also a rumor going around that Claflin will be playing Finnick Odair in the upcoming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. While this tale is yet to be officially made official, we’ll definitely be keeping our fingers crossed.
We know you’re familiar with her sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley, but recently little sister “Lizzy” has been making waves of her own. Last year, Olsen stared in Silent House, a groundbreaking horror flick edited to appear as if the entire film was taken in one shot. Next year, though, Olsen will be changing genres and starring in Very Good Girls, a drama about two friends that fall in love with the same man. Along with Olsen, Dakota Fanning and Demi Moore will also grace the screen. Those aren’t the only A-listers who Olsen’s recently been rubbing elbows with, though. In 2013 she will also star in Kill Your Darlings as Edie Parker, the first wife of Jack Kerouac. Daniel Radcliffe, Kyra Sedgwick and Michael C. Hall will also be staring in the film. For an actress whose film career just started last year, that’s a pretty impressive list of costars.
Taylor Kitsch is one of our new favorite bad boys of cinema. We fell in love with him back in 2006 when he played Tim Riggins in the TV series Friday Night Lights, but we thoroughly appreciated his relatively shirtless lead performance in John Carter. Naturally, we’re looking forward to seeing Kitsch strut his stuff with Mark Wahlberg in the upcoming film Lone Survivor. There’s also a rumor going around that he’ll play a part in the film adaptation of Need For Speed. For all you ladies who are secretly action junkies and fans of some finely toned abs (we’re guilty as charged), Kitsch is completely your type. Oh, and have you seen Savages?
Her film career started in 2010 with the short One Thousand Cranes, though Julia Garner has, for the most part, flown under the radar. Now, however, she’s completely caught our attention. This September she’s set to be featured in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, adapted from Stephen Chbosky’s novel. While Garner won’t star as the leading lady in the film (that honor goes to Emma Watson), we’re really looking forward to seeing what she brings to the table. She will, however, be staring in HairBrained, a story about a 14-year old-genius set to be released later this year, along with Brendan Fraser.
Along with Douglas Booth, Kit Harington was also featured in GQ’s photo spread of sexy British gents, and for good reason, since his first role as Jon Snow in the TV series Game of Thrones has our hearts all aflutter. Well, we’re happy to announce that Harington will be making the switch to film. This October he will be staring in Silent Hill: Revelation 3D with fellow Game of Thrones star Sean Bean and Radha Mitchell from the original Silent Hill. Next year, Harington will also play a part in The Seventh Son, a period fantasy film starring Julianne Moore, Jeff Bridges and hottie Ben Barnes from Dorian Gray and The Words. We can’t wait to see how dapper he’ll look in an 18th century suit.
