Staff Favorites: August

Oh, August. Do you love-slash-hate this transition month as much as we do? On the one hand, we’re excited to get a look at the new fall launches, but at the same time we’re dreading that huge change in the makeup bag that we’ll all inevitably need to make.
Check out Dual Show editors’ faves for August if you need some ideas!
Lorelei Marfil (Editor-In-Chief): Borghese Fango Active Mud Mask for Face and Body
“Unfortunately, the summertime heat gives me an oilier complexion. I love using this mask on my face. My skin feels fresh and hydrated after.”
Jacqueline Vasquez (Fashion Editor): Gel Bronze by Bonne Bell
“Super cheap and works like a dream. I love how some of the best beauty finds have nothing to do with price! This stuff is great because my skin gets a great tan during the summer (especially my shoulders!) but my face always tends to be a shade lighter— this gel goes on smoothly, has more of a matte finish and allows flexibility in a range of shades. If I want a deeper, bronze goddess look, I just apply an extra layer. If not, one dime-size squeeze of the tube is enough to provide me a healthy (believable!) glow.”
Victoria Chan (Beauty & Health Editor): Dermalogica Precleanse
“This month, I finally leaped over my addiction to trying an array of millions of facial products, and headed off to the Dermalogica Academy to learn how to use the best products for my skin. Precleanse is made for all skin types and has done absolute wonders for my own skin—very rarely do I find products that I can say have totally transformed my skincare routine. This product has replaced my makeup wipes before a regular cleanser and has totally added a healthy, radiant glow to my skin. I’m currently addicted to all Dermalogica skincare products—they’ve addressed all my issues (blackheads, uneven skintone and oily T-zone!). I can’t say enough about the brand!”
Devora Neikova (Lifestyle Editor): John Frieda Go Blonder Spray
“This has been my go-to hair product since I ombréd my hair about a year ago. It gently lightens and is great for the keeping up the contrast in my hair without having to use dye. Even better, you can control the intensity of the color—the more heat you use after you spray it on, the blonder your hair will go (although it’s not recommended for people with very dark hair). I especially love to use it in the summer for some extra blondeness and to create that beach babe hair vibe!”
Nell Alk (Copy Editor): Priti NYC
“My favorite product for August would have to be Priti NYC. Ever since discovering this nail polish brand a little less than a year ago, I’ve been hooked. My latest obsession is their Grand Slam (tennis-inspired) Kit, which includes four rich, eye-catching colors: Ballet Dahlia (white), Barbarossa (orange), Miss Jeckyl (blue) and Peporomia Pixie (green). Packaged in an eco-friendly – and adorable – carrying case, there’s much to love about this brand born in 2005. Founder Kim D’amato’s mission with its launch was to support organic famers and decrease chemicals poisoning our planet. Thus, Priti NYC polishes are 100% non-toxic (safe for children and moms-to-be), as well as vegan and cruelty-free (i.e., not tested on animals). Available in over 100 shades, from metallics to mattes, neons to nudes, there’s something for everyone.”
Stay tuned for our September favorites to see what we use for the first month of fall!
