Ten Unusual Dates Worth Taking
No couple wants to get stuck in the dinner-and-a-movie rut. Date night should be an adventure every time you’re together. Sometimes, couples have the desire to go on a date that can create sparks, but they just don’t have the ideas. Some don’t know where to start. Well, fret no longer. We have put together a list of great dates that may be familiar, yet a road not taken, or ones that are out there but certainly worth trying.
Drive-in Movie: This date is a classic go-to. While they aren’t incredibly popular anymore due to Netflix and the overall indoor theatre appeal, a drive-in movie can be perfect for a couple wanting to gain some closeness while not emptying their pockets. There’s nothing like closing the space between the driver and passenger seat and snuggling close to your significant other. New York remains one of the top drive-in states, but do check out this complete list of drive-in theatres all over the country for some ideas!
Destination Unknown: Now, this is for couples who have been around each other for quite a bit of time. Go to the airport, find the cheapest ticket available that leaves soon (doesn’t matter where), and just go. Spend a weekend at your surprise destination and explore! There’s nothing like being in a foreign place to bring two people together. This date allows for some quality time and a chance to go somewhere you’ve never been before.
World Tour Feast: For couples who still crave dinner dates, try this one on for size. For dinner, go to three different ethnic restaraunts. Have your appetizers at one, main course at another and round things off for dessert at another. Try tons of different foods and go to restaurants you’ve never been to before. Figure out what kinds of food your date really likes and doesn’t like. Whatever you do, try something new!
Midnight Picnic: In the wee hours of the morning, gather up some yummy food, a blanket and your significant other and hit the beach so you can watch the sun rise. Chow down on some of your favorite treats as the sun peaks over the ocean. Snuggle close while the wind blows and just be together.
Tour the City: Be tourists in your own city. Take an impromptu walk around and visit places you both have never been to before. See some historical places (and some not-so-historical ones) and take tons of pictures. If you really want to get into character, wear fanny packs and take your pictures with Kodak cameras.
Bring Out the Kid in You: Do you both like children? If so, then this is the perfect unusual date for you! On a Saturday afternoon, visit a children’s hospital, board games in tow. Play games with the kids and be the big kid we all wish to be. This will give you a glimpse into your date’s comfort with children, and you’re making kids happy at the same time!
An Eye for Art: Take your date to a museum or an art show. This is great for a second or third date and standing next to your date pondering over art can lead to meaninful conversation. It’s a great date to really get to know someone.
Music to my Ears: Get out the newspaper (yes, newspaper!), and turn to the “live music” section. Close your eyes, randomly choose a show, get all dolled up and hear some live tunes! Who knows? The band might be pretty good and you could open yourself up to some new musical genres.
So You Think You Can Dance: Pick a type of dance that both of you have no experience in—whether it’s hip-hop, swing dance or even clogging, go dancing! Show off! Be horrible! Just have fun with it! There’s nothing like pairing up and creating a story with your newfound dance moves.
Roadtrip: Take a roadtrip—this can be excellent for a long weekend away and can really make you feel free and spontaneous. One idea is to visit the world’s largest treehouse. Located in Crossville, Tennesee, this location is perfect for a fun-filled date or active couples looking for an adventure.
Take a chance on some of these dates and let us know just how much fun you have!
